5 Different Restaurants Close to the FSU Campus to Try

By Isabella Trelles on April 27, 2019

Living in Tallahassee, restaurants can get a bit repetitive. I’ve found that I constantly eat at chain restaurants because they make up most of the places to eat here and are close to campus. But if you get adventurous you may just surprise yourself by the cool restaurants you find! Below I’ve listed some more alternative restaurants that are still very close to campus!

1. Decent Pizza- This is an amazing hole in the wall pizza place and it’s only about five minutes away from campus! Decent Pizza is a great break from chain restaurants like Dominos or Papa Johns because they have fresh ingredients and are known for having one of the best pizza ovens in Tallahassee. They also have affordable lunch specials where you can get a one topping slice of pizza and a drink for only about $6.00.

2. La Tiendita- This is probably the best Mexican food you can get in Tallahassee! This joint is named the best place to get tacos in Tallahassee and it’s for a reason. All of their ingredients are incredibly fresh and its the only authentic Mexican restaurant in Tallahassee. They also serve amazing in house made desserts like tres leches and churros. With tacos only costing you about $1.75 each, you can’t beat this deal or the quality of their food.

3. Pho 7- If you’re a fan of Vietnamese food then this is the place for you! Pho 7 is known for their hangover curing pho but they also have other amazing Vietnamese food like ramen and Bahn Mi sandwiches. Not to mention they serve the best fresh summer rolls, this pairs perfectly with their pho which has the best broth I’ve ever tasted! So try this place out the next time you have a long night out and need a pick me up!

4. Siam Sushi- This Asian fusion restaurant has some of the best Thai food in Tallahassee! Siam Sushi is reasonably priced and it’s the most authentic Asian cuisine you can get here. They serve many affordable dishes like sushi, noodle dishes, and fried rice. I’m a huge fan of their Pad Thai and their Tom Kha soup but I’ve been told by friends that this is the best sushi they’ve ever eaten!

5. Merv’s Melt Shop- This brunch restaurant is located only a few blocks from FSU and is known for their to die for grilled cheeses. With different sandwiches like scrambled egg melts and chicken avocado melts, you can choose to eat breakfast or lunch. Not only do they have amazing grilled cheese, but they also have great tater tots. Merv’s calls them “Fancy Tots’ because they are loaded with toppings like beer cheese, avocado, bacon, and scallions. For colder days you can also get some creamy tomato soup to dip your grilled cheese!

I hope that these restaurants will inspire you to try new places here that you haven’t before! With these locations located only within a mile from campus, there’s no reason not to give them a try if you’re bored of the “same old same old”. It’s also a good reason to support local restaurants!
